Greetings, Smartie Nation! @BankSmartCarrie here.
Needless to say, I’m super jazzed about the launch of AvidiaSocial. I feel like I’ve been waiting for this moment since 2003 when I was just a young smartie-pants updating my LiveJournal account with deep teenybopper thoughts.
More recently, I tried my hand at blogging – with my Top 5 Predictions for 2016. Number 3 on list was a prediction that the social world would see more of @BankSmartCarrie in excess of 140 characters. So far, I’ve managed to stay within the character limit.
Now the moment is finally here and I have no idea where to begin! I’m sure there are many things I could write about or questions I could answer:
What does a day in the life of BankSmartCarrie (BSC) look like?
What does BSC do in her spare time?
What designer is BSC wearing this season?
How many RedBulls has BSC had this morning?
Don’t worry! I’m going to get to all of them (eventually).
Let’s get started with a little rundown:
Although many of you can relate, I never set out to be a banker. I was going to school for elementary education. Finishing up my junior year of college, I took a summer job as a Teller at Avidia Bank opening a new branch location. Here we are 11 summers – and one American Banker award – later, I’m still livin’ the #AvidiaLife (and lovin’ it)!
I’ve learned so much over the past 11 years – both at the bank and outside. I finished out my undergrad in business, attended the NCMCC Community Leadership Institute and am currently in the MBA program at Clark University. All exciting stuff, that who knows… may just be another blog post!
So what do I do at the Bank?
Great question! I oversee strategy for our Retail and Digital channels. This is everything from in-branch experience, customer service delivery and product development to eCommerce and mobile/digital banking channels – with a bit of marketing and social-media-sassiness thrown in.
Digital and Social projects are my favorite. I love shaking up the community banking scene with exciting new technology like Cardless Cash that combines the best of both worlds. We’ve had some major accomplishments and press in the last 12 months and have quite a few more surprises in store for the next 12.
I’m incredibly lucky to be at an organization that supports this type of innovation, not to mention having such a rockstar team along for the ride. Although, sometimes they look at me with that “what-is-this-girl-talking-about-she-was-in-kindergarten-when-I-started-my-banking-career” face, but that’s to be expected, right? After all… I was a teller like 3 months ago.
So, this isn’t just banking as usual?
Nope. 2016 has proven to be a tipping point at Avidia Bank. We’re on the path to something new and different. One of my biggest challenges ahead on the Retail side is the quest for the magical “Branch Of The Future”. For those of you not in the business of nerding-out over banktech, this is the blending of bankers and ipads into a brightly designed technology branch.
To be honest, I’m not in love with the idea of “If you build it they will come” (in fact, I’m not sure I even like-like it). Branch traffic continues to decline as use of digital banking channels continues to skyrocket. What we need is someone who can build a perfect balance between the two – enter BankSmartCarrie.
Although my friends at MX Money Summit were not specifically talking about me, this clip could not have been more on point. Understanding banking and where technology is going is key – and this type of integration doesn’t always come from the top. In fact, earlier this year I chatted with them on how we’re building our digital strategy from the front line up. Take a look, it’s a good background piece. But, don’t worry there’s more to come. You didn’t think I spilled all my secrets… did you?
::Cue the exit music::
Alright, so this has been fun. Thanks for making it all the way down to the bottom of this post. I’m excited to be expanding my sassiness beyond 140 characters and embarking on this new #AvidiaSocial journey together.
